essenze in collaboration with David Trubridge, is excited to announce the New Zealand launch of ‘SeaT’, at the Te Papa Store in Wellington on Wednesday 22 October.
SeaT, a design collaborative involving 10 New Zealand designers, with the brief of capturing seaside textures and colours in functional product. Working from one common brief the idea was to recreate the experience of a day at the beach in New Zealand, and transport this experience through the products, to anywhere in the world.
Through the initiative of David Trubridge, drawing on his expertise, and working with designers utilising glass, ceramic, metal, textile and wood, a collection has sprung of objects, informed and inspired by the same idea – a particularly New Zealand ideal, of sharing food by the sea.
Exhibiting ‘SeaT’ for the first time in Milan, New York, and now New Zealand, essenze founder and director Clare Mora said she expects the collection to be well received by New Zealanders and international visitors to Te Papa. “New Zealand designers produce original and contemporary designs that are both distinct and organic in nature. In placing importance in the objects used for a fundamental daily ritual as eating, you create an occasion which is unique and memorable for all those who participate.” says Mora.
